About the book
Finding the Mother Tree
Forest ecologist Suzanne Simard combines memoir with science to explain her groundbreaking research into the hidden networks connecting trees. Drawing on decades of work in the forests of British Columbia, she describes how trees exchange nutrients and information through underground fungal networks, cooperate with neighboring trees, and rely on older “Mother Trees” that help sustain the surrounding forest. Alongside the science, Simard tells the story of her own life, career, and struggle to challenge long-held assumptions about how forests function.
