About the book
Intermezzo
by Sally Rooney
After the death of their father, brothers Peter and Ivan Koubek are each struggling with grief in very different ways. Peter, a successful Dublin lawyer in his thirties, is trying to manage complicated relationships with two women: Sylvia, his longtime first love, and Naomi, a younger woman. Ivan, a twenty-two-year-old competitive chess player who sees himself as socially awkward and isolated, begins an intense relationship with Margaret, an older woman dealing with difficulties of her own. The novel explores grief, desire, family, romantic relationships, loneliness, and the complicated bond between two very different brothers.
